Polestar 4 SUV and Polestar 5 launched in New Zealand

What was announced

Tarmac Life reported on 4 November that Polestar New Zealand had unveiled the Polestar 4 SUV and Polestar 5 to media, an event that also marked a leadership handover at the local business. Polestar launched in New Zealand in August 2021 and now sells through a franchise model with seven locations around the country. The report says the brand expects the Polestar 4 SUV to become a key volume model here.

Polestar 4 SUV: prices and specifications

The Polestar 4 SUV is a more upright version of the Polestar 4 coupé. It has a conventional rear window and rear-view mirror, a larger panoramic glass roof and full-length roof rails rated for a dynamic roof load of up to 100 kg. Luggage space is 530 litres to the seatbacks, 655 litres to the roof, and 1,665 litres with the 60:40 rear seats folded.

Both versions DC fast charge at up to 200 kW, with a claimed 10 to 80 per cent charge in 30 minutes. Vehicle-to-load (V2L) supplies up to 3.3 kW of AC power to external devices through an adapter, and a new Camping mode keeps the climate control running in the rear load area. 22 kW AC charging is a $1,800 option on the NZ configurator, where the Pilot, Plus and Comfort packs are included.

The SUV is $10,000 more than the Polestar 4 coupé in Long Range Single Motor form ($99,900 for the coupé). The two Long Range Dual Motor versions are both $119,900. The SUV is built in Busan, South Korea. On 5 November Polestar's NZ stock list showed pre-configured 2027 Polestar 4 SUVs from $110,500 plus on-road costs, marked as available now, in December or in January.

Polestar 5: the flagship GT

The Polestar 5 is a five-metre, four-door grand tourer on a bonded-aluminium platform developed for it. Both versions are all-wheel drive with an 800-volt electrical system and a 112 kWh lithium-ion battery.

DC fast charging from 10 to 80 per cent takes a claimed 22 minutes, and both versions support 11 kW AC charging (about 11 hours for a full charge). Top speed is 250 km/h. The Launch editions include the Pilot and Climate packs and a head-up display; Bowers and Wilkins audio is an $8,000 option. The NZ configurator gives delivery from early March 2027.
