Overview

The BYD Shark 6 is a five-seat dual-cab plug-in hybrid ute for New Zealand, built on BYD’s DMO Super Hybrid off-road platform with a longitudinal hybrid drive and a 29.6kWh Blade Battery. BYD New Zealand does not list a dual-cab grade called “Standard”: the dual-cab range is Premium AWD and Performance AWD, with a separate Cab Chassis 1.5L body.

On the 1 October 2026 specification sheet and the live bydauto.co.nz page, Premium AWD is $71,990 +ORC with a 1.5-litre turbo, 321kW / 650Nm combined, 0–100 km/h in 5.7 seconds, 100km of NEDC electric range (SOC 25–100%), 800km combined NEDC range and 2,500kg braked towing. BYD NZ also quotes a 790kg maximum payload for Premium.

Performance AWD is $78,990 +ORC with a 2.0-litre turbo, 350kW / 700Nm, 0–100 in 5.5 seconds, 80km WLTP electric range, 640km combined WLTP range and up to 3,500kg braked towing. Cab Chassis 1.5L is listed from $70,990 +ORC with the same 321kW hybrid as Premium, a 12.8-inch screen and 40kW DC charging.

Dual-cab Premium and Performance share a 15.6-inch touchscreen, Dynaudio 11-speaker audio, 12-inch head-up display, rain-sensing wipers, ventilated and heated front seats, 7kW AC / 55kW DC charging and vehicle-to-load. Performance adds the stronger powertrain and towing figure, a 6-way power passenger seat and an NFC card key.

ANCAP awarded the Shark 6 five stars in 2025 for all variants. BYD New Zealand’s current model sheets list a 6-year / 150,000km vehicle warranty, an 8-year / 160,000km high-voltage battery warranty and eight years of roadside assistance.
