Today Elon Musk announced the new Tesla Cybertruck in a flashy launch along with demonstrations of its capabilities, strength and a new electric atv that goes on the back.
This will be the first electric pickup available in New Zealand and likely to be the first electric ATV to go along with it.
Specifications of the three different versions of the Tesla Cybertruck are:
- Single Motor RWD – 250+Mi range, 7,500+lbs towing and <6.5s to 60mph
- Dual Motor AWD – 300+Mi range, 10,00+lbs towing and <4.5s to 60mph
- Tri Motor AWD – 500+Mi range, 14,00+lbs towing and <2.9s to 60mph
That’s a maximum range of over 800kms for the high end version of the truck.
It will have active air suspension along with super strong stainless steel allow frame that has been described as an exoskeleton frame similar to how airplanes are made.
The launch of the Cybertruck showed it racing against a late model Porsche 911 and beating it on a straight drag race.
There were some odd moments in the launch including when showing how strong the armour glass is it actually broke the glass windows of the pickup which wasn’t quite to plan.
We’re looking forward to seeing the first of the Tesla Cybertruck pickups driving around New Zealand which looks a lot more feasible with the massive range available on the high end models.
People looking to order today will need to pay a USD $200 deposit and will be able to complete configuration as production nears in late 2021. Tri Motor AWD production is expected to begin in late 2022.
